LASO/LAPD approved CCW training through Cobra Tactical

All CCW certifications are conducted in partnership with Cobra Tactical, an approved concealed carry training vendor recognized by both the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and LAPD. Applicants searching the issuing agency instructor lists will find Cobra Tactical listed as the authorized vendor for these certifications.

As a California Department of Justice CCW-Certified Instructor (#241), I provide official concealed carry weapon (CCW) certification courses for both Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and LAPD permit applicants, including the full state-mandated 16-hour initial certification and 8-hour renewal courses required for permit issuance. But let’s be honest — carrying a firearm in California is a serious responsibility, and simply meeting the minimum training requirement does not prepare most people for the realities of carrying a gun in public. This is not a “check the box” certification.

Most CCW classes focus only on qualifying you on paper; our goal is to help you understand the legal, moral, and real-world consequences that come with carrying a firearm where every decision may be judged afterward by law enforcement, prosecutors, and potentially a jury.

In addition to required instruction on firearm safety, California law, and use-of-force standards, students participate in guided scenario-based decision-making training designed for private citizens. 

Because surviving a violent encounter involves more than marksmanship, the course also includes one full hour of bleeding control and emergency first aid training — a critical skill for gun owners that is rarely included in any certification programs. 

Students learn practical life-saving techniques, including tourniquet application and wound packing. The reality is simple: if you are prepared to defend life, you must also be prepared to save one. A person can bleed to death in as little as 2–4 minutes, and these skills apply just as much to car accidents, workplace injuries, or everyday emergencies as they do to defensive encounters.

Courses are offered through regularly scheduled monthly group certification classes, as well as private one-on-one certification options for those who prefer individualized instruction or flexible scheduling.
