Force-on-Force classes are usually held on the last Sunday of each month from 8am-4pm at a private outdoor range in Santa Clarita, California. The cost is only 250.00 per person.
Instruction is led by Gene Leary, a retired LAPD Lieutenant with 24 years of service. Throughout his career, he supervised officers responding to violent and rapidly evolving incidents and led a Special Problems Unit (SPU), managing complex crime problems in one of the nation's busiest police departments. Having evaluated real-world use-of-force decisions and officer performance under stress, Gene brings invaluable perspective to our force-on-force training. His experience helps students understand not just tactics — but how decisions are judged afterward.
We utilize a variety of realistic non-lethal training systems, including UTM sim rounds, .43-caliber marking rounds, airsoft training platforms, and 8mm blank-fire weapons.
All protective equipment is provided.
Yes — you will experience a “pain penalty” for mistakes or inaction.
These training projectiles are specifically designed for professional scenario-based training and are non-lethal. However, they can hurt and may occasionally cause minor bruising or small cuts. That discomfort is intentional. Stress, consequences, and accountability are critical components of learning how to make decisions under pressure.
All scenarios are rooted in civilian reality — not tactical fantasy camps or law-enforcement CQB training.
Training scenarios are based on real crimes and situations a concealed carry permit holder may realistically encounter, including:
In addition to decision-making under stress, students receive extensive instruction on the law of self-defense. You will leave with a deeper understanding not only of deadly force and defensive firearm use, but of the full legal framework governing self-defense.
This is not an MMA class, and participants are never intentionally punished or injured. Every scenario is carefully planned and supervised with student safety as the top priority, while still maintaining the elements of stress, adrenaline, and realism.
Simply put — this training is an absolute must for responsible gun owners.

Most people who carry a gun have never actually faced another human being trying to kill them.
They’ve shot paper targets. They’ve passed a qualification. Maybe they stood still at 3, 5, and 7 yards while an instructor watched for safety violations. But violence doesn’t look like that. There is no buzzer. No one tells you “stand by.” There is no safe backstop.
There is no 180-degree rule protecting everyone around you. And very often… The bad guy acts first!
You don’t get to warm up.
You don’t get a second attempt.
You get one moment — on your worst possible day — to make a decision that could determine whether you live, go to prison, or lose everything you’ve worked for.
My philosophy has always been simple:
Don’t get dead.
Don’t go to prison.
Don’t get successfully sued.
You need all three to call it a real win.

In real life, you may be seated at dinner, distracted by your phone, or simply holding your child’s hand. You may not even realize danger exists until it is already unfolding in front of you. In that moment, you must make immediate decisions:
Is this a deadly force situation? Can I disengage? Can I leave? Will drawing a gun make this situation worse?
Am I legally justified in what I’m about to do? Because the phrase “I was in fear for my life” is not a magic set of words that automatically protects you. Afterward, detectives, prosecutors, and possibly a jury will want to understand exactly why you acted the way you did.
Can you clearly articulate innocence, imminence, proportionality, avoidance, and reasonableness? Most people can’t — because they have never been forced to make those decisions under real stress.

Force-on-Force training places you into realistic scenarios using non-lethal training weapons and real human role players. There are no guaranteed outcomes. Sometimes talking solves the problem. Sometimes, leaving is the smartest move. Sometimes drawing a gun makes it worse, and sometimes deadly force is the only answer.
Students experience stress, confusion, uncertainty, and pressure because another person is thinking, reacting, and making decisions against you — just like real life. The threat may lie. The threat may comply. The threat may attack first. And sometimes the best decision is realizing you never needed a gun at all

Carrying a concealed firearm is an enormous responsibility. You are alone. You have a small pistol. Limited ammunition. No body armor. No backup. And dozens of legal rules the criminal doesn’t care about.
You can do everything right and still lose. Nothing taught here is tactical magic. These are small advantages — better decisions, better awareness, and better judgment — that may give you an edge when someone else decides today is your worst day.
Simply put:
Train like the civilian you are living in CA.
Don’t get dead.
Don’t go to prison.
Don’t get successfully sued.
