Our Mission
SDS Tactical’s mission is to empower everyday civilians with practical, reality-based defensive skills through private training, small-group instruction, and scenario-driven force-on-force classes. We provide certified SB2-compliant concealed carry training for Los Angeles County and LAPD (through Cobra Tactical), grounded in real-world experience and a commitment to responsible firearm ownership.
Beyond our core CCW and force-on-force programs, we offer in-home firearm training with specialized inert and non-lethal training guns, realtor-agent safety classes focused on gun safety and safe open-house practices, and comprehensive pepper-spray and taser training to enhance home defense.
We work with individuals at all experience levels — from complete beginners and first-time gun owners to experienced concealed carriers and active-duty law enforcement professionals. Women and those who may feel uncertain or intimidated are especially welcome. Our approach is professional, patient, and tailored to the individual to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
SDS Tactical also provides professional actor firearms training and weapons consulting for film and television productions. Dave served as the firearms trainer on the NBC/Peacock series The Calling and has worked with cast members from Blue Bloods and Dexter, bringing real-world expertise and on-set safety awareness to every production.
Dave Shaw is a CA POST-certified tactical handgun instructor, CA DOJ instructor, NRA pistol instructor, and CA SB2-certified CCW instructor (#241). With over 10 years of experience in firearm training, Dave has logged more than 2000 hours of formal instruction. He has completed advanced classes from recognized training organizations such as Assault Dynamics, Tacfire, Strategos International, Surefire, OpSpec, TAC1, Trident Concepts, and Firearms Training Associates. Additionally, Dave has undergone over 100 hours of force-on-force scenario-based training using UTM, SIRT, and shooting simulators. As part of his comprehensive concealed carry training, he also emphasizes gun safety and is certified in TCCC (Tactical Casualty Combat Care) and advanced CPR/AED. For those interested in home defense training, Dave offers valuable insights and skills, and he is well-versed in LA County CCW classes to help students navigate the requirements effectively.
